Advertising: Distance Learning Programmes

Advertising sounds like an interesting career to many, and there are several places offering online degrees or distance learning programmes in advertising. Like always, we recommend you'll do your own small research: if you're already in advertising, ask around if the degree is in fact required, recommended or redundant; and whether your current employers and colleagues might recommend a school or even finance it. If you want to break into the world of advertising, check first if distance learning is the best way, and if advertising programmes are what you need or any other programme, like marketing, communication, etc. You can do it by checking the requirements in job ads, by contacting people in the business and asking them (even if you don't know any - I have found that most people answer nicely to polite emails about their field), by reading books about advertising.



As usual, we divide our list to three or four parts: top school (that is, school that are quite famous), other schools that are "non-profit" and brick-and-mortar universities (because these tend to have better quality and better impact on the CV); "for profit" schools; and the last group - schools that advertise themselves, but one should check well before applying there, as they are either controversial, or have no legitimate accresitation, etc. Don't understand this division as ranking, although naturally, the more famous (for being good) the school, the better are your chances.
